San Diegans can look forward to yet another flawless forecast this weekend but what about those few days when it’s just not so fabulous outside? Last weekend’s unusually gray, drizzly skies got me thinking about what America’s Finest City has to offer other than an (almost) endless summer.
Here are my picks for the best ways to wait out these seldom-seen San Diego showers:
Check out Coin Op Game Room in North Park for nostalgic games galore. They’ve got over 30 arcade favorites and a stellar cocktail menu. I am the master of Mario Kart here.
The Digital Gym, also in North Park, is a community arts center offering workshops and classes in all things digital. Brush up your skills, learn something new or just sit back and relax during one of their independent film screenings.
Spend a day at the museum(s). Balboa Park has 15 to choose from, ensuring there is something interesting for everyone. It is also home to The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center which screens captivating short films in a stunning 360 degree theatre.
Finest City Improv not only offers superb comedy shows, but a chance to take the stage yourself; they teach improvisation classes monthly.
Challenge yourself on the indoor rock-climbing wall at SolidRock Gym. With three locations in SD county, the rain is no reason to have to forfeit outdoorsy exercise.
Located in the historic Lafayette Hotel, The Red Fox Steakhouse and Piano Bar’s dimly lamp-lit lounge is the perfect place to snuggle into on a dark and dreary evening. Far more casual than the name suggests, “The Fox”, as it is known locally, serves up stiff cocktails and a great traditional American menu in a classically cool setting.
Turns out there is a lot more to San Diego than just another pretty day!
